Abstract

1,101,783. Lipstick applicator. AVON PRODUCTS Inc. 27 July, 1965 [6 Nov., 1964], No. 31996/65. Heading B8P. [Also in Divisions A4 and F1] A lipstick applicator comprises a tubular housing 1 in which a container 6 filled with lipstick slides between a retracted and an extended dispensing position, Fig. 3 (not shown) and a cover 25 adapted to enclose the container within the tube when placed over its open end and to engage lugs 20 to urge the container to a dispensing position when placed over the rear end of the tube. A spring 22 engaging lips 24 on the tube 1 and 23 on the container 6 holds the container and its brush 11 in a retracted position when the cover 25 is placed over the open end of the tube to frictionally engage projections (26), Fig. 1 (not shown). The open end of the cover 25 abuts the lugs 20 attached to a movable collar 19 and extending through vertical slots 4, 5 in the tube 1. To dispense lipstick, the cover is placed over the lower end of the tube 1 to re-engage the projections (26) and push the lugs 20 to the top of the vertical slots 4, 5. A threaded rod 16 having two flats 17 extending along its length screws into a nut 13 fixed to the container 6 and is attached to a piston 15 which may slide on an O-ring seal 18 inside the container. When the tube 1 is rotated relative to the container 6, a hole 21 having the same shape as the cross-section of the rod 16 and formed in the collar 19 prevents rotation of the piston which is screwed upwards by the nut 13 and lipstick exudes through a tube 12 into the brush 11.
