Abstract

1,101,523. Lampholders. UNDERWRITERS SAFETY DEVICE CO. 4 April, 1966 [8 Sept., 1965], No. 14778/66. Heading H2E. [Also in Division F4] In a holder for a parallel array of two-pin tubular lamps, terminal blocks 12, 13, each have pairs of bores housing spring-loaded contact sockets, each pair being in a different angular position so that when the lamps are inserted uncoated strips (21) on their respective envelopes are in predetermined angular relation. Each bore, e.g. 31, of the block 12 houses a metal ferrule 34, which closely surrounds one end of a spring 40 which is compressed on insertion of a lamp pin 17 into a frusto-conical end portion 38 of the ferrule. The other end of each spring 40 is attached to a terminal tag 42-23, which passes through aligned apertures in a cover-plate 43 and a support 14, the members 12, 43 and 14 being bolted together. Each pair of bores, e.g. 56, 57 (Figs. 5, 6 and 8, not shown) of the block 13 is formed in a cylindrical insert body 55, which is slidably located in the block 13, having projections (59, 60) which loosely engage slots (62) in the block to allow limited rotation of each insert. The bores 56, 57 each house a spring-loaded contact stud 68, 69, the springs being attached to terminal tags which, as in the block 12, pass through apertures in a cover-plate 43 and support 15.
