Abstract

1,100,014. Mechanical switches, without quick action. STACKPOLE CARBON CO. 30 June, 1965 [30 June, 1964], No. 27814/65. Heading HlN. A rotary switch comprises a plurality of separate and distinct stator members 12, each having one or more contacts 38, 40 formed from a single sheet metal stamping, stator members 12 being assembled side by side and contiguously to form a space 24 between the stator contacts, and a rotor 26 being disposed in space 24 and carrying at least one moving contact 32 for bridging related pairs of contacts of adjacent stator members, the moving contact 32 having limited movement within the rotor to engage the contacts. Each stator member is formed from a metal stamping (42), Fig. 10 (not shown), moulded in an insulating disc 16 and parts (denoted by dotted lines in Fig. 10) cut away to leave contacts 38 connected to terminals 48, and idler contacts 40. The rotor 26 comprises a disc 28 containing through openings 30 into which contacts 32 or elliptical cross-section coiled spring contacts (164), Fig. 13 (not shown), are fitted. The stator members 12 and end bells 20 and 18 are clamped together with rivets 22 with seating rings 64 in recesses. Sealing rings 153 are provided on shaft 34 which carries a spring detent plate 126 with projections 122, 124 to engage cam surface 120 formed by flats (128, 130), Fig. 9 (not shown), in end bell 18. Stamping (42) may be of silver, silver alloy, or brass.
