Abstract

1,099,602. Feeding and stacking sheets. J. & T. ENGINEERING Ltd., and J. J. HAYTHORNTHWAITE. Dec. 1, 1966 [Dec. 1, 1965], No. 51034/65. Addition to 1,099,601. Headings B6B and B6H. [Also in Division G4] The apparatus described in Specification 1,099,601 is combined with an electromagnetic pre-selectable counter for the sheets which are separated, the counter including electric signal generating means operable by the passing of a sheet. The sheets, which may be currency notes, postal orders, or other documents of value, are separated sequentially from the bottom of a stack 20 by rollers 16, 24, and double-feed is prevented by fingers (30, Fig. 2) pre-set adjacent the roller 24 to form a feed gap. In the event of double-feed, detector rollers 48 set adjacent the roller 24 are lifted to operate a switch (52, Fig. 4) which de-energizes a magnetic clutch (40, Fig. 2) which is arranged between a drive motor 36 and belt drives to the separator rollers 16, 24. The roller 16 is stopped instantly by an electromagnetic brake 54. Each separated sheet passes beneath a curved plate 60 on a pivoted arm 58 to lift the arm, and the latter then operates a switch 64 which passes a signal to an electromagnetic counter (46, Figs. 3 and 4) of the type which is restored to zero condition. When a predetermined batch of sheets has been counted, the counter operates a switch in the circuit of a relay (44, Fig. 2), which in turn deenergizes the clutch (40). The separated sheets are forwarded by rollers 66, 68, driven from the motor 36, and by idler rollers 67, 69 on to a stacking platform 72, and an electromagnetic brake 70 on the roller 66 is responsive to the operation of the relay (46). Stacking sheets.-The sheets are delivered by the feed rollers 66-69 on to a platform 72 having a pair of endless belts 74 which are driven at a slower speed than the sheets from an independent motor 76, and a pair of wheels 78 on a pivoted frame rests on the belts. The counted sheets thus collect on the platform in overlapped condition, and are finally bunched into a pack by end plates 73. The platform 72 is detachably hinged at 82 to the housing of the machine.
