Abstract
109,937. Hibi, K. March 28, 1917. Cylinders receiving liquid fuel.- During the compression stroke, air is admitted to a chamber 3 from t h e combustion chamber through a valve 2, and fuel through a valve similar to 4 but not shown. This charge ignites spontaneously and is allowed to escape into the cylinder during the working stroke through the valve 5 and nozzle 11 and to carry with it the remainder of the charge which has been admitted to the chamber 7 through a valve 8. The valve 4 is a scavenging air valve. The plug D also contains a starting-air valve which is not shown. The fuel admitted to the chamber 3 may be easy to ignite, and that admitted to the chamber 7 difficult.
