Abstract

1,099,230. Transistor amplifier circuits. FERNSEH G.m.b.H. Sept. 9, 1966 [Sept. 10, 1965], No. 40334/66. Heading H3T. In a variable gain amplifier for a video signal an input 8 is fed to the commoned emitters of a pair of PNP transistors 4, 5 and to the commoned emitters of a pair of NPN transistors 2, 3. One of each pair of transistors 2, 4 has its base and collector connected to reference potentials, and the other two 3, 5 have their bases connected to a variable gain control 27 and their collectors connected in parallel to an output terminal 14. The input signal is fed to the commoned emitter circuits via further transistors 1, 6 which have their bases biased by network 17, 18, 19 so as to add equal and opposite D.C. components to the signals fed to the two emitter coupled pairs. Variation of resistor 27 varies the division of currents II, 16 between the pairs 4, 5 and 2, 3 respectively thus varying the gain without changing the means D.C. in the output circuit. Diodes may be included in the coupling of transistors 1 and 6 to their respective emitter coupled pairs.
