Abstract

1,098,124. Cutting tools. ALFRED HERBERT Ltd. Sept. 19, 1966 [Jan. 29, 1966], No. 4084/66. Heading B3B. A disposible tip tool holder comprises a shank 10 with a tip receiving recess 11, 12 at one end, a tip clamp 17 with screw-tightening means 33 and a chip breaker 19 located in a parallel sided guide channel 18 in the clamp 17. A cam member 23 is provided within the clamp and is supported in the clamp and recess bottom by stub shafts 26, and 27 respectively. The cam member is connected to the chip breaker by a C-spring 22 which engages notches 20 in the end of the chip breaker. The rotation of the cam member permits the advance and retraction of the chip breaker in the guide channel in relation to the cutting edge of the tip 16. When the required adjustment is made the tip and chip breaker are secured by the clamp by tightening the screw 33. The thickness proportions of the tip, recess, and chip breaker are such as to ensure positive abutting engagement when the clamp is tightened.
