Abstract

A machine for removing the backing sheet 33 from a laminate consisting of the backing sheet and an adhesive coated applique comprises a reference surface 20 adapted to support the laminate 30 as it is moved over the surface, a motor driven resilient rubber coated roller 21 for advancing the laminate while holding it firmly against the surface and a separating member 32 adapted and arranged to engage the laminate as it emerges from between and while it is still held between the roller and the surface so as to split the sheet 33 away from the laminate. The separating member 32 has a narrow sharp blade 31 positioned immediately adjacent an opposed edge of, and at an adjustable predetermined distance above, the reference surface. A pair of rounded spreading edges extend laterally away from opposite sides of the base of the blade for gradually stripping the backing sheet off the laminate.
