1,097,671. Hypodermic syringes. WILLOWS FRANCIS Ltd., [trading as PHARMACEUTICAL MANUFACTURING CO.], April 9, 1965 [April 10, 1964], No. 14973/64. Heading A5R. A cartridge hypodermic syringe comprises a barrel 10, made of polystyrene, polyethylene or polypropylene, at one end of which is fixed a double ended needle 26 which pierces a medicament cartridge 29 when loaded in the barrel and the other end of which is open to receive a polyethylene bushing 16 in which a styrene plunger 18 is slidable. The needle 26 has a removable sheath 32. Units each comprising a barrel, cartridge and needle or the whole syringe are sterilised and packed in a polyethylene or metal foil envelope. The same bushing and syringe may be used to operate several barrel, cartridge and needle units. The stem of the plunger or the barrel may be calibrated. The syringe barrel may be made in two identical halves each having corresponding grooves (86) of semicircular section at the forward end such that when they are secured together, e.g. by cementing or welding the needle hub is held in the grooves.
