Abstract

1,096,755. Filling and seating containers. COSTER TECNOLOGIE SPECIALI S.p.A. March 24, 1965 [March 25, 1964], No. 12432/65. Heading B8T. A filling and sealing head 1 which seals a valved closure member to an aerosol container and then supplies liquid propellant to the container via the valve, includes a collar 10 which engages the container top with - the closure member loosely in place, and is attached to a sleeve 7, whereby upward movement of the container relative the head causes the parts 10, 7 to telescope into the head against a spring 14, and claw members 30 are brought adjacent a container flange to which the closure member is to be secured. This upward movement causes an air valve 16 to be opened by a rod 15, whereupon pressure air enters a chamber 38 to force a piston 20 and shaft 23 downwardly against a spring 22; a wedge member 32 on the shaft is thus forced downwardly against inclined surfaces of the claw members to force them radially outwards to seal the closure member to the container. The valve stem of the container is received within packing 35 contained by a member 33 slidable within the wedge member 32 and urged downwardly by a spring 34 acting on a piston 29. After the closure member has been secured, the parts 29, 33 move upwards against the spring 34 and relative to the wedge member so that ports 43 become free of packing 45 and allow the passage of liquid propellant to the aerosol valve stem via passages 27, 28, 43 and 44. When a metered quantity of propellant has been supplied, a valve is operated to cut off the compressed air supply whereupon the various parts of the head return to their initial positions and the aerosol container is removed therefrom.
