An elongated precombustion chamber 1 has an inlet passage 3 directed towards an incandescent plug 15 and the fuel injector 4 directs the fuel jet towards an uncooled part 5 of the chamber wall, the passage 3 having a frusto-conical part 2. The piston 10 has a projection 12 opposite the outlet of passage 3.
