Abstract

1,096,243. Automatic exchange systems. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 21, 1964 [Dec. 24, 1963], No. 51822/64. Heading H4K. In a multistage switching network utilizing transistors as the cross-point switches in the speech wires, the transistors are initially operated and then held by means of bi-stable elements located in the c-wires. PNP, NPN or photo transistors (Fig. 2, not shown) may be used and the bi-stable elements may be PNPN transistors or the combination of a phototransistor and light source (Fig. 3, not shown). In the latter case the light source, which is in series with the photo transistor in the c-wire, is also used for operating the photo-transistors of the speech cross-points. Operation.-A marker closes switch S in the c-wire of the selected path and reduces the potential on terminals 1 to 4 (of stages I to IV) from - 80 to - 60 v. PNPN transistors trc 1 to trc 4 in that order trigger-on successively and then hold even when the input potential restores to - 80 v. The conduction of the c-wire transistors causes the speech wire NPN transistors tra and trb to energize. The latter are held from the c-wire until the connection is released by opening S.
