Abstract
1,096,109. Radiant electric heaters. INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Oct. 27, 1965, No. 45461/65. Heading H5H. A radiant electric heater includes a hermetically sealed envelope 11 which is either evacuated or contains a non-oxidizing gas, the envelope having a bulb 11a joined to a tubular neck portion 11b, both of non-oxidizing metallic sheet material, and a base seal 12 of insulating material closing the tubular neck portion, the bulb 11a having a thin curved non-reflecting radiating end portion 19; a filament 14a supported from the base seal 12 in substantial parallelism with the end portion 19; and a metal heat reflector 18 between the filament 14a and the neck portion 11b arranged to reflect heat on to the radiating end portion 19. The filament 14a is supported in grooves 15a in a ceramic member 15 supported by a rod 16 from the seal 12. The reflector 18 is mounted on an insulator 17 supported on the rod 16 and filament leads 14b and 14c. The envelope 11 may be of nickel or a nickel-chromium alloy and may have a reflecting coating 13 of chrome. The filament 14a may be of Mb, Ta, W, Re or Cb. The envelope may be evacuated or filled with hydrogen through a tubulation 12b. The neck 11b may be cooled by a finned heat dissipator 26.
