Abstract

A semi-crystalline glass composition containing b -spodumene crystals in a glass matrix comprises in weight per cent: SiO2, 52-70; Al2O3, 15-30; Li2O, 2-4; ZrO2, \sF0.8 TiO2\sF0.8; SnO2, \sF0.8; the balance, if any, consisting of other compatible constituents. Other ingredients may be a total of 4-9% B2O3 and MgO whose percentages do not mutually differ by more than 2%. The outside is made by forming a glass article and reheating to 1500-1899 DEG F. for a time sufficient for the formation of b -spodumene crystals throughout the article. If fully crystallized to b -spodumene, 30-57% of these are present.
