Abstract

1,095,018. Sheathed electrical resistance heating elements. BACKER ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. June 30, 1966 [July 1, 1965], No. 27828/65. Heading H5H. A sheathed type electric heating element comprises an external helical winding 1 of helically coiled wire with closely adjacent coils of substantially circular section, the turns of the coiled-coil winding 1 being in intimate contact with the surface of the sheath 2 of the element and also being in abutting contact with each other. Winding 1 is to increase heat dissipation from the sheath 2. Its ends are secured to sheath 2 by clips 8 or by welding. The winding 1 may be single or plural start. The winding 1 may be provided on separate lengths of the sheath 2 separated by uncovered lengths and the element may be bent into U-shape at the uncovered lengths. The element may be fitted in a casing (9), the ends of sheath 2 projecting beyond the ends of the casing which is closely fitted by the winding 1 and provided with inlet and outlet connections (10) for a fluid to be heated.
