Abstract

1,094,929. Supply systems for road vehicles. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. Nov. 16, 1966 [Jan. 14, 1966], No. 1829/66. Heading H2H. A supply system for a road vehicle comprises a mesh-connected four-phase alternator 11 charging a battery 12 through a full-wave rectifier 13, the alternator field winding 14 being controlled by a conventional voltage regulator 16. The alternator 11 may have five or six phases, and a discussion is given of the functioning of an alternator of this type, which provides automatically a low cut-in speed without loss of output at maximum speed. The operation is such that the effective number of alternator turns is reduced at high speeds compared with the number at low speeds.
