Abstract

A cellular fire-retardant polyurethane is the reaction product of an organic polyisocyanate with a polyester and/or polyether polyol and, (1) a first phosphorus compound containing at least two active hydrogen atoms per molecule and being present in an amount of at least 5% by wt. of the polyol together with (2) a second phosphorus compound which is at least one trialkyl phosphate or phosphonate in an amount of from 10-90% by wt. of the total of (1) and (2). (1) may be an alkoxylated dialkylpyrophosphoric acid, e.g. propoxylated dibutylpyrophosphoric acid. Examples of (2) trimethyl phosphate, triethyl phosphate, dimethyl methylphosphonate and diethyl ethylphosphate.
