Abstract

1,094,396. Testing gyroscopes. AIRPRECISION S.A. June 17, 1965 [June 30, 1964], No.25743/65. Heading G1C. A test table 20 for gyroscopic instruments is mounted at the upper end of a shaft 16, held in a gimbals 19, the lower end of the shaft being coupled to a carriage 9, adjustable along a lead screw 10, by means of a knuckle joint, a motor 1 also being provided for rotation of a mounting plate 8 on which the screw 10 is carried, so that the shaft 16 executes a precession movement about its normal vertical position. The motor 1 rotates the plate 8 through a gear train 3 and clutch unit 2 which enables the speed ratios to be varied. The speed of the motor 1 is controlled by a tachogenerator 22. Means 5 are also provided for reversing the direction of rotation of the plate 8. A motor 11 is provided for rotation of the screw 10, and an electromagnet 17 for locking of the knuckle joint on the shaft 16. A further electromagnet 21 enables rotation of the shaft 16 in the gimbals 19 to be stopped. Indicators and controllers are provided to enable the table 20 to execute desired movements during the testing of gyroscopic instruments.
