Abstract

1,093,861. Cam-shafts. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. June 27, 1966 [July 28, 1965], No. 28608/66. Heading F2U. [Also in Division F1] The cam-shaft 16, Fig. 3, in an I.C. engine is mounted in pedestals 56 formed integrally with a valve rocker cover 30. Cam-shaft 16 is secured and sealed at each end by dust cover 70, washers 63, 66, 68 and belts 60. Cams 36 act on valves (48), Fig. 2 (not shown) via rockers (38) pivoted on lash adjusters (42). A chain timing belt (28), Fig. 1 (not shown) drives the cam-shaft 16 and an auxiliary units package (not described) (22) from the crank-shaft 14. Lubrication.-Pressure oil from the engine block passes via gallery 78, passage 76, groove 74 and passage 72 to passage 58 and thenco passes via metering jets 64 in the cams 16 to lubricate the valve gear by oil mist.
