Abstract

A polymer composition comprises (1) a major proportion of a copolymer of a monoolefinic hydrocarbon and an ester of an unsaturated alcohol, the copolymer containing from 5 to 20 parts by weight of the ester; and (2) a minor proportion of a rubber, based on the combined weight of (1) and (2) there being no cross-linking additive present in the composition. The preferred copolymer (1) is an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer and the preferred rubber is butyl rubber. The compositions are used in moulding soles or heels of footwear (see Division A3).ALSO:The invention comprises articles of footwear, such as a boot or shoes, in which the sole or heel of the article is made from a polymer composition comprising (1) a major proportion of a copolymer of a mono-olefinic hydrocarbon and an ester of an unsaturated alcohol, the copolymer containing from 5 to 20 parts by weight of the ester and (2) a minor proportion of a rubber, based on the combined weight of (1) and (2). Preferably no cross-linking agent is present in the composition. The preferred copolymer (1) is an ethylenevinyl acetate copolymer and the preferred rubber is butyl rubber. The sole or heel is p injection-moulded and the injection-moulding operation may be combined with that of fixing the sole or heel to the upper of the footwear article.
