Abstract

1,093,076. Supervising circuits. A. V. HILLBERG. Nov. 20, 1964 [Nov. 22, 1963], No. 47396/64. Heading G4H. A supervising circuit comprises a number of resistors 10-13 adapted to be connected into or disconnected from a closed electric circuit depending upon the state of equipment to be supervised and a contlrol unit adapted to give an alarm when the total resistance of the circuit rises or falls below predetermined levels. The resistors 10-13 are short-circuited by contacts 14-17 under certain conditions. At the central station the lines are normally connected to relay coil 22. The contact of this relay is normally balanced between contacts 27 by the attraction of coil 23. An adjustable resistor 18 facilitates the balancing. If the current in coil 22 changes owing to a change of resistance in the circuit A the contact moves and lights a lamp 26. The operator at the central station then transfers contacts to apply an ohmmeter or bridge 28 to the circuit to measure the resistance. The resistors may all have different values so that the value of circuit resistance indicates which of the resistors 10- 13 has been cut-out or put into the circuit. Upper and lower threshold indications may be given by separate relays. In another form the threshold relays are replaced by Schmitt triggers, each comprising a pair of transistors. In outputs of the triggers are connected to enable a transistor multivibrator circuit which causes a lamp to flash when either predetermined level has been passed. The circuit may be used to indicate liquid level, the resistors being connected in turn in a series circuit as the level changes. An alarm is given if upper or lower limits are passed and the ohmmeter may be used at any time to measure the level. The current for the resistors 10-13 passes through a diode 59. Another chain of resistors 60, 61 is connected in parallel with the first through an oppositely poled diode 64. The resistance of this chain can be measured by the ohmmeter 28 in the same way as the first, upon reversing the polarity of the ohmmeter.
