Abstract

1,092,945. Taking up slack in cables. SHORT BROS. & HARLAND Ltd. Nov. 19, 1965 [Dec. 3, 1964], No. 49268/64. Heading B8B. A device for supporting and taking up the slack in a cable 12 between two relatively rotatable structures comprises a first guide member 11 rotating with one structure, a second guide member 13 stationary with the second structure, and a third guide member 14 freely rotatable between the two members 11, 13 and forming therewith two cable guide channels, between which the cable passes by means of a slot 18 in the third member 14. The guide channels are formed by skirts 16, 17, 19 on the base plates of the two members 11, 13 and the intermediate member 14 takes the form of a disc. The cable 12 is secured to each base plate where it emerges therefrom at 15, 20. Relative rotation of the two members 11, 13 causes the cable 12 to move through the slot 18 in the disc 14 which rotates to accommodate the changing position of the cable. Rollers and curved surfaces may be provided to facilitate the movement of cable through the slot 18. In a further embodiment, the cable guide channels take the form of scrolls.
