Abstract

1,091,922. Alternators. JOSEPH LUCAS INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 17, 1965 [Feb. 21, 1964], No. 7273/64. Heading H2A. In an alternator, e.g. for use in road vehicles, comprising a field winding 21 carried by a rotor 42 rotatably mounted within a casing 37 . . . 39 and surrounded by a stator 41 from which the alternator output is obtained through a full-wave rectifier supported by the casing, a voltage regulator assembly controlling the current to the field winding is so detachably supported by the casing as to be removable therefrom without dismantling the latter from the remainder of the alternator. The assembly comprises a printed circuit board 75 which carries most of the regulator components and has secured thereto a heat sink 76 mounting a power transistor 29 and providing both a handle for moving the assembly and an aperture 78 which directs cooling air over the transistor 29; the assembly slides through an aperture in the cover 39 into channels 72a . . . 74a of three electrically conductive strips 72 . . . 74 secured to an insulating plate 71 carried by a brush box 54, the strips being connected respectively to brushes 53, 52 of rotor slip rings 19, 18 and to the earthed casing. The rectifier and output terminal arrangement is as disclosed in Specification 1,091,921.
