Abstract

1,089,546. Infra-red direction finders. NORDAVIATION SOCIETE NATIONALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS AERONAUTIQUES. Nov. 24, 1964 [Nov. 28, 1963], No. 47814/64. Heading H4D. [Also in Division G2] A combined infra-red direction finder and optical viewer incorporates a radiation receptor for receiving visible and infra-red radiation along parallel paths together with a support permitting training of the radiation receptor about two perpendicular axes, at least one of the latter passing through the centre of gravity of the whole. In one embodiment coaxial bearings in a frame supporting the infra-red and visual devices provide for training in elevation and a recess in the bottom of the frame provides for azimuthal training, the corresponding axes intersecting at the centre of gravity, Fig. 1 (not shown). In another embodiment the visual image path is periscopic, the infra-red detector is mounted on the periscope housing, and the whole is pivotable about a swivel joint, Fig. 2 (not shown). In a further embodiment a periscopic construction incorporates a rotatable prism for training in elevation and the whole is rotatable in azimuth, Fig. 3 (not shown).
