Abstract

1,089,273. Electric resistance heaters. CRESSALL MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. Oct. 21, 1965 [July 21, 1964], No. 29557/64. Heading H5H. A heater assembly and control means comprises a plurality of groups of three sets of reticulated sheet or strip metal resistance heaters and switching means connecting the heaters to 3-phase supply to form a delta or star configuration with the heaters in parallel of series (Figs. 3a-3d, not shown) to provide varying levels of power dissipation. A second switch may be incorporated permitting three heaters only to be connected in either star or delta configuration. To obtain a greater range of heat outputs two assemblies and associated switch means are used together. Heaters from each set R 1a , R 2a , R 3a , are mounted in coplanar relationship in a frame 11 on insulating members 13 having terminals 14, the other heaters being mounted in a similar frame. The heaters of equal resistance, each comprise five NiCr expanded metal strips 15 separated by asbestos insulating strips 17 and series connected by members 16. An asbestos backed reflector may be mounted on the frame 11 behind the heaters. Non uniform heating is obtained by spacing the heaters as required. The apparatus may be used for heating sheets of thermoplastic synthetic resin prior to vacuumforming or rolling, or may be used in ovens.
