Abstract
1,088,411. Electromagnets. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. July 1, 1965 [July 3, 1964], No. 27512/64. Heading H1P. In a laminated ferro-magnetic core 11, such as an electromagnet, holes provided in first and second laminations are arranged to overlap one another so that an adjusting tool may be inserted through these holes at 15 or 16 to effect relative movement of the first and second laminations on rotation of the tool. As shown, slots 18 enable the upper set of laminations 13 to move relative to the fixed lower set of laminations secured at 17 so as to vary air gap 19 as the tool is rotated. Alternatively both sets of laminations may be movable. The laminations may be F-shaped (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown), and the holes may be slot, circular, or triangular shaped. The slots (20) of the upper laminations (Fig. 3) are arranged to overlap the circular holes (21) of the lower laminations so that on inserting a tool (such as in Fig. 2, not shown), a cam surface (25) on the tool moves the slots (20) within the holes (21) to effect relative movement of the laminations. Also a combination T- and E-shaped laminations (Fig. 5, not shown), may be used.
