Abstract

1,088,408. Screening electrical components. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. July 15, 1966, No. 31893/66. Heading H1R. A screening partition 6 between " interdigitated" components 3, 4, 5 on adjacent printed circuit boards 1, 2, comprises a sheet of thermoplastic material formed in relief to follow the contours of the components on one board, and provided on one or both surfaces with a conductive coating having earthing means 7, the or each conductive coating being insulated to prevent conductive contact with a component. The components on said one board, or a model thereof, are covered with a soft blanket, e.g. of polyurethane foam, on top of which is placed the thermoplastic sheet, e.g. of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, which is heated and shaped by vacuum-forming. When cool, the formed sheet is metallized on one or both surfaces, as by electroplating, or spraying, and a flexible earthing lead 7 is soldered on; alternatively, the board may be provided with a spring finger which contacts a metallized layer on the partition. Finally, each metallized layer is provided with an insulating coating of paint, varnish, or synthetic resin.
