Abstract

1,088,133. Connecting tubes. VERSATILE FITTINGS (W.H.S.) Ltd. and D. H. PEACOCK. July 20, 1966 [May 7, 1965], No. 19435/65. Heading A4H. [Also in Divisions E1 and F2] An end fitting 10 having a spigot 11 is secured to the end of a tube 15 of polygonal cross-section by means of a nylon sleeve 14 having an internal bore of the same polygonal form as the tube. The sleeve is slid into the tube and the spigot is then slid into the sleeve and then rotated through 45 degrees so that projections on the spigot, equal in number to the sides of the internal bore of the sleeve, engage the sides of the sleeve and expand it into engagement with the tube. The spigot may have the section of a squareleafed clover (as shown) or a square section. The sleeve 14 has a cross-section of a smaller square inside and displaced 45 degrees from a larger square, and axial grooves 16 are provided in each of its internal sides to locate the spigot. The end fitting may comprise two spigots (21, 22, Fig. 4) welded together.
