Abstract

Benzothiazole monoazo dyes of general formula <FORM:1087587/C4-C5/1> in which R is a hydrogen or halogen atom or a nitro group or an alkyl radical, R1 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or aryl radical, n is 1 or 2 and A is a radical of a coupling component in which the hydroxyl and azo groupings are in adjacent positiion to one another and which dyes are free from sulphonic acid groups are prepared by coupling the diazo compound of an amine of formula <FORM:1087587/C4-C5/2> in which R, R1 and n are as above with an enolic or phenolic coupling component in a position adjacent to the enolic or phenolic hydroxyl group the starting components being free from sulphonic acid groups. Coupling may preferably be in aqueous, organic or aqueous-organic media at neutral to alkaline pH values. Red-green-blue shades are obtained in metal-containing polypropylene.ALSO:Metal-containing polypropylene fibres (Zn Ni, Al) are dyed with benzothiazole-monoazo dyes of formula: <FORM:1087587/D1-D2/1> in which R is a hydrogen or halogen atom or a nitro group or an alkyl radical, R1 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or aryl radical, A is a radical of a coupling component in which the hydroxyl and azo groupings are in adjacent position and n is 1 or 2. Red-green-blue shades are obtained.
