An automatic coin-operated amusement machine comprises a substantially vertical panel 11 having four coin slots (not shown) arranged at the -top thereof so that coins inserted in the slots are allowed to fall vertically down the surface of the panel; at various points over the area of the panel springy pins (not shown) project from the surface; the panel contains eight openings 12 to 19 each of which is obscured by a metal plate 20, e.g. in the shape, of a cup, which is parallel to and spaced from the surface of the panel so that a coin which appears to fall into the cup will fall through the opening and pass down a steeply sloping chute (not shown) behind the panel; the passing of a coin through an opening actuates a switch associated with that opening; two ramps 23 and 24 lead to a pair of coin receiver chutes 26 and 27 along each of which are spaced four tubular coin receivers capable cf holding different numbers of coins and closed by a slide which is connected to an electricmagnetic actuator. These actuators are each in circuit with a switch associated with one of the openings so that when a coin passes through an opening in the panel the switch associated with that opening is actuated and so energises the electromagnetic activator controlling the slide on the associated coin receiver. The coins in the receiver are released and fall on to a coin tray from which the player can collect them. If the coin used does not fall into one of the "cups" it reaches one of the ramps 23 and 24, and falls on to one of the chutes 26 and 27 and slides down the chute into the first coin receiver which has room to take it. If all the coin receivers are full the coin falls into the coin tray and the user may recover it. The coins which fall into the "cups" and produce wins for the users fall into a coin box inside the machine casing and are retained.
