Abstract

A sealing composition suitable for sealing leaks in pipes &c comprises a stable aqueous dispersion of an elastomeric rubbery solid having an ionic charge and a surface-active agent, the charge on the rubbery solid in the dispersion being of opposite sign to that on the surface to be contacted in use, said composition being capable of being cured without heating, whereby in use the composition penetrates the surface to be sealed and cures in situ. Suitable latices are of natural rubber, polychloroprene, styrene-butadiene and styrene-acrylonitrile copolymers. The surface-active agent is preferably anionic and the composition may also contain additional surfactants and colloid stabilizers. The compositions may contain filamentary reinforcement or fillers.
