Abstract

The invention comprises 3-guanidino-chromans, acid addition salts thereof and their preparation by reaction of a 3-amino-chroman or an acid addition salt thereof with a compound of formula XN = CYZ, wherein Z is an optionally substituted amino group, Y is an etherified mercapto group and X is a hydrogen atom or a substituent or X and Y together with the carbon-nitrogen double bond form a carbon-nitrogen triple bond, or an acid addition salt thereof, followed if desired by N-substitution. 3-Amino-chroman is prepared by reaction of 3-chromonone with hydroxylamine hydrate to form 3-chromonoxime, and subjecting this to catalytic hydrogenation. The compounds of the invention have hypotensive activity and may be used in pharmaceutical or veterinary compositions in combination with a carrier, for example in forms suitable for oral or parenteral administration or in animal feeds.
