Abstract

108,532. Berry, A. F. Aug. 11, 1916. Bolts and studs.-Means are provided whereby the coils in an electric transformer can be set up and firmly held in place but cannot be subjected to such undue pressure as would be liable to injure the insulation. The screws or equivalent setting-up means, or the screws &c. and the means for setting them up, are so constructed as to admit only of the transmission of sufficient power to set up the coils. As shown in Fig. 2 the screw is formed with a fixed head b and a loose head c pressed together by a spring d and having their engaging faces formed with interfitting radial corrugations. The spanner for setting up the screw is applied to the loose head. In a modification the sorrugations are replaced by a series of balls seated in cup-shaped recesses. In the form shown in Fig. 7, a member c is interposed between the fixed head band the loose part m. A series of balls are seated in recesses in opposed faces of the parts m and c and the part c is mounted on a square part of the screw and is held up by a spring d, while the part m is held in place by an enlargement on the end of the screw. Fig. 9 shows a modification of this last form arranged as a separate device for engaging the square end of a screw. The part m is formed with a hexagonal head, or, as shown, with a handle o, and its lower end is closed by a ring n screwed in.
