Abstract
1,084,596. Incandescent electric lamps. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 13, 1965 [July 16, 1964], No. 29659/65. Heading H1F. The lamp comprises a light pervious bulb having a tungsten filament and a filling of inert gas and bromine, the lamp being designed so that the temperature of the filament during operation is so high that its effective life ends before the comparatively cold metal parts in the lamp are damaged by chemical attack by the bromine, and the bromine content at the beginning of the life of the lamp is between 5 Î 10<SP>-8</SP> and 5 x 10<SP>-7</SP> gm. molecules of bromine per c.c. of bulb capacity. The lamp bulb may be a narrow quartz tube with the filament arranged axially, the distance between the filament and the bulb wall being such that the wall reaches a temperature of 300‹ C. or higher during burning. The filling may be a rare gas and nitrogen or a mixture of these with the addition of bromine.
