Abstract

[Also in Division F2] A method of mounting a clamp fitting 1 on pipe for securing a branch pipe to said pipe or for closing a hole therein, said fitting including a body part 2a, a hole-locating rim 11 integral with said part. and arms 4, 5 in which the body part at least is of synthetic plastics such as polyvinyl chloride or polyethylene, comprises the steps of applying a solvent to at least the said body part, drawing the body part against the pipe by tightening said arms about the pipe using a bolt or bolts passing through lugs in said arms, and allowing the softened material to harden. As shown, the fitting is formed as a one piece moulded synthetic plastics unit and includes a tubular boss. 3 for attachment to the branch pipe. Alternatively, parts of the fitting other than the body part may be of a different material such as metal. After solvent welding the body part at least to the pipe wall about the hole therein, the strap arms may be wholly or partly removed. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the fitting comprises two straps (13) each including a body part, a pair of straps and a boss, the terminal ends of the strap being bolted together around the pipe. In a further modification. Fig. 3 (not shown), the body part 20 of the fitting is formed by a bowedclosure disc (20) for solvent-welding over an inspection hole in a pipe wall or sealing a hole in pipe formed by drilling out a damage pipe wall portion.
