Abstract

1,084,295. Liquefied gas transport system. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. June 1, 1966 [June 3, 1965], No. 24387/66. Heading F4P. A natural hydrocarbon gas transport vessel is provided with a heat exchanger 11, Fig. 1, to which compressed feed gas is admitted through a line 10 for liquidation in indirect contact with cold isopentane withdrawn from a tank within the vessel through a line 17 and to which tank the so-warmed isopentane is returned through a line 19; the L.N.G. being expanded to about atmospheric pressure in a chamber 14 and passed through a line 16 to heat insulated storage containers from which it is withdrawn through a line 20, Fig. 2, at the destination port and revaporized by being pressurized at 22 and forced through a line 21 and the heat exchanger 11 which is warmed by passage therethrough of relatively warm isopentane withdrawn from the vessel's tanks through the line 19 and returned thereto in the cold condition through the line 17. The chamber 14 encloses a heat exchanger 15 which during liquefaction of the h.c. gas is traversed by cold isopentane to effect further cooling of the L.N.G. and which exchanger 15 during the revaporizing period serves to effect further cooling of the isopentane. The chamber 14 also encloses a liquid separator 40 and during a re-vaporizing period gas is withdrawn from head of chamber 14 warmed in an isopentane heated exchanger 26 compressed at 27, 4 and added to the gas in a line 23 at the gas discharge end of heat exchanger 11.
