Abstract
1,084,283. Two-part couplings. PLESSEY-UK Ltd. June 26, 1964 [May 17, 1963], No. 19706/63. Heading H2E. In an electrical in-line connector, a socket contact 1 and a pin contact 7, each having a generally cylindrical outer surface are each located in a sleeve (19 and 12 respectively) of resiliently insulating material such as nylon or polypropylene by flanges 3a, 8, 8a on the contacts and corresponding grooves 21, 14, 15 in the sleeves. The sleeve 19 has an extension 23 fitting over the sleeve 12, the extension 23 and sleeve 12 being provided with a circumferential ridge 24 and a groove 18 respectively, or vice versa, which snap into mutual engagement to retain the connector halves in a fully engaged position. The connector is assembled by forcing each contact into its associated sleeve, the flanged portions of each contact being provided with lead-in tapers to facilitate this assembly. Wires 5, 11, are connected to end bush portions 3 and 10 of the contacts, for example by crimping or soldering.
