Abstract

1,084,025. Container closures. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. Nov. 3, 1965 [Nov. 5, 1964], No. 46605/65. Heading B8T. A container closure 16, e.g. of polypropylene, which may be a snap fit on the container rim, has an integral portion 12 which hinges about a thin web section provided by one or more grooves 15 to provide a discharge opening. When the portion 12 is initially raised with the aid of a projection 21, weakened areas in the rim 17 of the closure and at the ends of the grooves are broken. A plate 13 with perforations 14 below the portion 12 may be located in the container mouth. The closure may be circular and the portion 12 sector shaped. The non-hinged part of the closure may be welded or screwed to the container, and the hinged part may have projections which fit into the perforations of the plate. Alternatively the closure rim extends upwardly and the closure is fitted within the container mouth.
