Abstract

1,083,406. Cathode - ray storage tubes. HUGHES AIRCRAFT CO. June 18, 1965 [July 6, 1964], No. 25878/65. Heading H1D. In a direct-view storage tube which may be of the kind described in Specification 874,288, an annular, electron-impervious shield 70 is provided between the envelope and a cylindrical collimating electrode supporting a collector grid adjacent the target to trap fringe electrons and so prevent edge-illumination of the screen and electrical charging of the envelope around the target. The shield is made from a flexible metal strip having parallel slits transverse to the longitudinal axis of the strip at an angle other than 90 degrees, the strip being folded along said axis and bent as shown, before being curved into annular form. The shield 70 is welded to the collimating electrode and contacts the envelope. The collimating electrode may be formed integrally with the support ring for the collector grid.
