Abstract

1,083,344. Brake or clutch lining material. BRAKE LININGS Ltd. Dec. 22, 1965 [March 5, 1965], No. 9413/65. Headings F2C and F2E. An insert or inserts or a surround of copper or an alloy of copper or aluminium extends through a resin-bonded asbestos fibre brake or clutch lining from a position at or just under the surface to a point beyond which wear of the lining will not normally take place. Such an insert of annular form, as shown, of cruciform shape (Fig. 2, not shown), or a number of such inserts consisting of cylindrical plugs (Fig. 3, not shown), may be fitted, either by casting the lining material around it (or them), by machining or drilling the lining material to receive them; alternatively, a copper or alloy surround (Fig. 4, not shown), may be secured around the lining edge. The cross-sectional area of the metal in a plane parallel to the lining surface is preferably between 10 and 25% of the total surface area.
