Abstract

1,083,175. Axial-flow compressors. BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORPORATION (OPERATING) Ltd. Aug.11, 1966 [Aug.13, 1965], No.34788/65. Headings F1C and F1T. A blade 4 of an axial-flow compressor is constructed by moulding a glass-reinforced plastics material over a flattened end 6 of a steel tube forming the blade root. The end 6 has holes 14 to improve bonding. Moreover, bonding is improved by the process of first applying resin and powder ingredients to the cleaned tube, curing the ingredients by heating and then moulding the plastics material on to the tube. A thrust bearing may be secured to a plug 18 screwed, bronzed, or welded to the tube. The plug may carry a lever arm movable in a plane normal to the axis 19 for adjusting the blade pitch.
