Abstract

Impact resistant graft polymers are made by polymerizing a styrene solution of a copolymer of styrene and butadiene in which more than 80% of the butadiene is combined in the cis-1,4 form, the copolymer containing 1 to 40% of styrene and being used in an amount of 0.1 to 50% by weight of the styrene monomer. Also present in the polymerizable solution may be other monomers such as acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, vinyl pyridine, alkylstyrenes, acrylates and methacrylates. Polymerization may be carried out in bulk, or in suspension or emulsion in water. As polymerization initiators there are specified organic peroxides and azodiisobutyronitrile.
