In a three-shot Gripper-Axminster loom the grippers 18, Fig. 1 move upwardly through the warp and grip the tuft yarns 17, three shots of weft 30, 31 and 32 Fig. 3, are inserted simultaneously by needles 25, 26 and 27, tufts 41 are severed and the grippers 18 move downwardly and forwardly along a line 36 to the Fig. 3 position to move the shots 30, 31 forwardly and simultaneously the reed 37 moves the shot 32 forwardly, the grippers 18 move down through the shed (Fig. 4) where the reed 37 completes the beat-up and the shed starts to change, the grippers open (Fig. 5) and move slightly back and a comb 40 raises to release the previously inserted tuft 39, the grippers rise (Fig. 6) to raise the tufts 41 which are held by the comb 40 whilst the grippers move to the Fig. 1 position for the next cycle. A cam-lever mechanism (Fig. 2) operates the grippers and reed.
