Abstract

1,081,919. Egg boxes; packages. HOLDING ALIMENTAIRE S.A. Nov. 4, 1964, No. 45048/64. Headings B8C and B8P. An egg-box is made of a thin sheet of resilient polyvinylchloride, aluminium foil, &c. and comprises two halves (20, 22), Fig. 1 (not shown), formed with cups 16, 18, Fig. 4, for the eggs, the two halves being folded together along a line (10). When made of P.V.C. the box is transparent. The lower cups 18 have inwardly directed circular ridges 34 seating the narrow ends of the eggs and are closed at their ends to form cylindrical feet, and the upper cups 16 are similarly shaped at 46 to receive the broad ends of the eggs. The cups 16, 18 are strengthened by lengthwise ridges 36 projecting inwardly to support the eggs. Ventilating grooves (26), 28 connect adjacent cups 16, 18 and also vent the cups to atmosphere. When the box has been filled with eggs and the two halves folded, the edges are secured together, e.g. by heat treatment. The cups 16, 18 are domed and recessed at 48, 42 so that the boxes can be stacked one upon the other.
