Abstract

1,081,691. Straightening. DAVY & UNITED ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Jan. 6, 1965 [Jan. 7, 1964], No. 734/64. Heading B3E. A leveller comprises first and second back-up rolls 12, 14 of relatively large diameter, first and second series of work rolls 13, 15 of relatively small diameter arranged in cages as satellites around the first and second back-up rolls respectively, such that on rotation of the back-up rolls, work rolls from the first and second series alternately pass through the plane containing the axes of the back-up rolls. Positive drives may be provided for the backup rolls 12, 14, work roll cages, and stripfeeding pinch rolls 18, 19 or for back-up rolls and work roll cages only, back-up rolls and pinch rolls only or work roll cages and pinch rolls only.
