Abstract

1,081,363. Joint-making packing. N. D. TRBOVICH. Sept. 21, 1964 [Sept. 20, 1963], No. 38393/64. Heading F2B. In a metal-sealing ring 1 of U-shaped crosssection having a base 6 and side walls 7 terminating in outwardly-projecting flanges 8 having sealing surfaces 9, the side walls taper in cross-section from the base 6 towards the flanges 8 and the base is thicker than the side walls are at any point within substantially the full width of the side walls. The opposite ends 10 of the base 6 are flat and parallel and the flanges 8, in the free condition of the seal projects beyond the ends 10 which act to limit the amount of compression of the ring 1 in use (Fig. 1). The surfaces 9 have a coating 9B of ductile material such as silver, gold, nickel, copper or P.T.F.E.
