The liquid from a moisture-containing or solvent-containing layer coated on a flexible web, e.g. photographic emulsion, is removed by passage through a H.F. field while supporting the web on a cushion of a gas as it passes about an arcuate platen. The platen is perforated for the passage of the supporting gas, e.g. air, and the perforations house the R.F. electrodes and further electrodes may be positioned in staggered arrangement in an arc above the web.
