Abstract

1,079,027. Pulse modulation circuits; pulse sampling. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. March 26, 1965 [March 30, 1964], No. 12913/65. Addition to 1,079,026. Headings H3T and H4L. The signal sampling circuit of the parent Specification is modified in that the transistor earthing the input signal between sampling pulses is replaced by a Zener or other diode. As shown in Fig. 1 a current proportional to the input voltage V 1 appears at the collector of transistor TR 1 and between sampling pulses V 2 is earthed via Zener diode D 1 , the transistor TR 2 being non-conductive. Each sampling pulse V 2 causes TR 2 to conduct and charge the capacitor C 1 , diode D 1 being cut off. Immediately before each sampling pulse a clamping pulse V 3 discharges the capacitor C 1 via transistor TR 3 , the signal samples V 4 being supplied to a utilization circuit (not shown). Transistor TR 1 may be biased via resistor R 3 and current source E 3 to allow both positive and negative signals to be sampled. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), a biased diode replaces the Zener diode.
