C. engine having more than two valves in each combustion chamber, a hairpin spring 5, Fig. 2, acts on an interconnecting bridge member 4 to close the respective pairs of inlet or exhaust valves 3. Each valve stem is secured in a hole 6 in the bridge member by a split key 7.
