Abstract

107,892. Hutsell, T. A. Oct 16, 1916. Fixed-abutment type; packing vanes; working-fluid supply.-In an internalcombustion engine of the outwardly-sliding vane type, the charge is drawn by the vanes 17 through a port 29 into a chamber 26 and compressed through a channel 56 left between the rotor and the casing into a chamber 54, where ignition is effected by a sparking-plug 33, the gases exhausting through an outlet 32. The vanes 17 are spring-pressed and independently operated, and have lateral pins engaging guide grooves 23 in the casing walls. The vanes have peripheral grooves fitted with forked spring packing strips 36, Fig. 6, having lugs 38 supporting a spring 39. Lubricant is fed bv a pipe 41 and passage 43 to an annular channel 44 in the rotor communicating by ducts 45 with the slots 16 in which the vanes slide. These slots are interconnected by channels 46, and branch oil ducts are formed in the vanes leading to the packing-members. A sump 50 rereceives surplus oil.
